Cornish Jubilations

On Monday we packed up the car and drove the seven hours down to Mawnan Smith in South Cornwall.  We arrive just in time to rush around the corner with our friends George and Joe to join a local Jubilee Street Party.  This was a proper organised party in the road of a quiet close with bunting streamed accross the close and a long table and chairs for all the attendees.  Everyone had brought savoury and sweet dishes to share and it was a very civilised affair although we did feel a little like gate crashers.  One lady asked David what number house we lived at and he answered number 59 - which I suppose is true but I suspect she assumed we were locals!

We then spent the evening sitting in George's kitchen enjoying several glasses of wine and catching up on all the news and family gossip.

Tuesday morning we took the kids to a local indoor play centre as it was raining.  Joe and David had planned to play golf but the rain was far too heavy which is a shame.  I think David was slightly relieved as he has not played for two years and was a little worried he might be rather shown up!

Back to George's house for a delicious picnic lunch and then we went out to a local village Jubilee celebration. Just before we left Nat saw a great big puddle and jumped in with glee soaking his socks and his sandals so we had to go back inside to fetch some dry socks and his spare shoes!  We then drove a short distance into the Village.  By this time the sun had come out.  We wandered around a few craft stalls and I purchased a lovely leaded glass heart to add to my collection.  Seb bought Nat a little teddy bear which he was delighted with.

While we sat and enjoyed a nice cold drink, Nat loved watching a traditional old fashioned Punch and Judy show.

Then we sat on the lawns outside and listened to a local brass band playing on the beautiful Village Band Stand.

Afterwards we walked down to the beach and George put Baby Holly in Nat's pushchair where she fell asleep and looked totally adorable.
On the beach Nathaniel, David and Seb threw pebbles into the sea.  Unfortunately a wave came in a little too quickly and Nathaniel got caught up to his knees soaking his trousers, socks and his shoes.

We finished off the afternoon sitting in a local beach bar enjoying another drink and chatting to some of Joe's friends.

Last night the boys ate dinner together and George and I got ready to go out for the evening.  We started at the Shed in Falmouth where Joe had pre-ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for us so we could toast their recent engagement.  We enjoyed a delicious meal then moved along to Bar 8 for cocktails.  Joe met us around midnight and we went back to the shed for a final drink before coming home.  Lovely relaxing day!
