A Scorching September Weekend

It has been quite a busy weekend.  On Friday evening my friend Theresa very kindly picked me up and drove me into Lewes where we went for a drink with some friends before attending the evening wedding reception for Kevin and Sarah our colleagues from work.  It was nice to be invited to the wedding and really lovely to know so many of the evening guests - especially to meet up with an old work colleague called Lee who had flown back early from a trip Barcelona especially to be there.

The bride and groom were adorable and lovely and cute together.  There was a really good band playing and Kevin entertained everyone with a stint of DJ'ing.  It was quite a late night though!

Yesterday I had to be up early to get to the hairdressers to have my hair done.  In the afternoon we took Seb out looking at bikes as he is desperate to have a new bike for Chistmas and we weren't sure what size bike he might need.

In the evening the boys and I accompanied David to Eastbourne where he was playing in a Last night of the Proms themed concert.

Nathaniel enjoyed waving his flags during all the patriotic numbers.  There was one piece when the Euphonium player started playing a cadenza and he played several really low notes.  He had played one particularly loud and low note and in the silence that followed Nathaniel shouted out "naughty noise".  The whole audience erupted in laughter.

It was another late night as the concert finished late and then we headed back via Seaford to buy some chips which we then parked up on seaford seafront to eat.  It was eleven o'clock at night and we were parked up on the seafront watching the lights of the Newhaven ferry as it crossed the channel while we ate our hot chips and drank mugs of coffee from a flask that David's mum had brought with her.

This morning we went to Church.  David was serving on the welcome team so he left early and the boys and I and we caught the free church bus.  We took my parents' new student Jacquelin with us as she is a Christian from India and is studying in Brighton for the next couple of weeks.

It was a scorching hot day and apparently the weather is supposed to turn again tomorrow so we wanted to get out this afternoon to make the most of it.  We decided to drive over to Shoreham beach and we took our inflatable rubber dinghy with us.

The waves were quite choppy so David took the two boys out first and then he got in and joined them.  I was worried that the boat might tip over and that Nat might fall out, I ended up getting my shorts completely wet by wading out to keep an eye on him.

Nat and I then went in the boat together and it was lovely to bask in the sunshine and bob up and down on the waves.

After we put the boat back on the shore David and I went back in the sea for a swim.  It was quite fresh and invigorating but lovely to be out in the waves.

When we got out and dried off we walked back to David's mum's appartment and had a cup of coffee to warm up.  The sun had gone in by this point so it was starting to cool off quite quickly.

After we had finished our drinks we went for a walk along the River +bank and looked at all the unusal and different houseboats that are moored up there.

It is one of my favourite places to go for a walk because I find it fascinating to see the boats that people live on and I like to wonder about who they are and how they live.

There are a couple that are made from different things welded together like, cars, coaches and one even has a washing machine welded into the side.

This evening we went for dinner at my parents house and we were joined by their three foreign students, Jacqueline and a Spanish couple called Diana and Carlos.  The students are all really nice, my mum cooked a delicious roast dinner and it was a very pleasant evening and a great end to a wonderful weekend.
