Little 'P' comes to stay

Another early start this morning to get us all up, dressed, fed and to the dentist for 8am.  Usually Nathaniel stays asleep until I am up and ready but today he woke earlier than normal. I therefore got him dressed and popped him in his highchair with a bowl of weetabix ,in front of a Postman Pat cartoon and asked Seb to keep an eye on him while I got dressed.

Came back down stairs to find mushy weetabix splattered all over the lounge carpet - great!  What a fantastic start to the day.  Scooped up as much as I could and Seb scrubbed the carpet with a damp cloth for me.  Finally managed to get the boys in the car and amazingly we still made it to the dentist on time.

The dentist checked Seb's teeth first and was pleased that they are all fine.  I went next and all my teeth were fine too but I had a bit of plaque build up behind my bottom front teeth so the dentist set to work to clean and polish them.  The dental nurse stuck some foul tasting tube in my mouth to suck up excess saliva and of course the dentist had his tools squeezed in there too so my jaw was stretched to capacity.

To be honest, it wasn't the most relaxing dental experience I have ever had.  Firstly I always feel I am going to drown in my own saliva while having my teeth cleaned.  The dental nurse seems to stick the tube anywhere but where the saliva is and frequently just gets the tube vacuum sucked to the inside of my cheeks and has to tug to free it.

Meanwhile Seb aged 13 and Nathaniel aged 2 were out of my eyesight wrestling on the floor and making the most horrendous noise.  They had the unrestricted run of the place as I was pinned to the bed with my mouth wide open and couldn't do or say anything to stop them.

Every now and then I would feel one of them bump into the chair.  I could hear, giggling, squealing and fighting somewhere beneath me. I was choking on saliva and gesticulating wildly to Sebastian to get him to sit down and be quiet but he either didn't see me or decided to ignore me.  The dentist carried on regardless as if he was quite oblivious to the racket and chaos surrounding him.  I was quite relieved when it was all over and I could wash away the horrible taste and drag my unreliable boys out of there.

After dropping Seb at school, Nat and I drove over to pick up my friend's son little 'P'.  My friend has had to fly abroad to be with her family for her father's funeral and could not take her children as she did not have time to get them Visas.  Therefore a few mums from my church are helping look after 'P' each day while my friend is away.  I have little 'P' today and overnight until tomorrow evening which could be interesting.  Nat's very first sleep-over!

I took Nat and little 'P' to a soft play centre this morning and we spent two and a half hours there.  They had a great time running around and they played really nicely together.  We have now come home after some lunch and amazingly I have actually managed to get both boys to go to sleep!  I have put a travel cot for 'P' in Nat's room.  They spent quite a bit of time laughing at each other and bouncing up and down but eventually I got them to sleep after half an hour of singing.  I ran out of all the usual children's songs and finally got them to drift off to songs from the Phantom of the Opera (I'd like to think it was a very accurate rendition but as I have mentioned previously, I am pretty tone deaf so I half think that they both went to sleep just to get me to stop singing!)

Anyway I reckon I have possibly got another 30 or 40 minutes before either they wake up or I have to rouse them to go and collect Seb from school.  I think I might go and get myself a coffee and relax, while I have the chance . . .
