A Wooden Love Seat and an Upside-Down Cake

This morning Seb, Nat and I went to Church on the free church bus as David was serving on the welcome team and had to be there early.  We were a little surprised to step off the bus and have cameras from the BBC filming our arrival.  The BBC is filming next week's Sunday morning church service which will be broadcast live on BBC 1 at 11am.  I guess they wanted to get some footage ready for editing this week.

Anyway Joel Virgo was preaching from 1 Samuel 24: 1-22 about how David, when he had the chance to kill Saul, refrained from doing so because he respected Saul's authority as annointed King.  Joel was using the passage to illustrate how we should each respect the authority figures in our lives and play the role of peacemakers even if we don't particularly like them or agree with what is being asked of us - for example our bosses, parents, the government, police officers etc.  It was quite a thought provoking sermon.

Nat enjoyed going off to Purple COGs which is our Children's Work (Children of God) split into various different colours for the different age groups.  Nat made a lovely figure out of a kitchem towel tube which he was very pleased with and proud to show off.  I think it is supposed to be me but he kept calling it "man" so perhaps he didn't quite get the message!

On the way home we called into Homebase to pick up some decking stain and some paint.  After some lunch and revision for Seb I set to work to restain our love seat which had become badly weathered and dried out.  David tackled the job of restaining our decking which was looking in an equally bad condition.

After some more revision I also made a start on transforming my wooden coffee table.  It was donated to us a few years ago and the colour of the stain has never really matched our colour scheme.  I was half tempted to purchase a new coffee table but could not justify the expenditure and then I was inspired to change the look of our existing table with some paint and possibly some stenciling.  Anyway I have done a base coat but stupidly left it in the garden to dry and when I went to bring it in I realised it is covered in small flies.  I will probably have to redo it now!  Anyway more on the coffee table to come soon.

Also in a break from revision I baked a batch of Sweetcorn and Bacon muffins for Seb and David's lunches.  These muffins are really tasty and disappear really quickly but are also good for freezing so I tend to bake a batch and defrost a couple as and when I need them.

Seb also remembered today that he is making pizza at school tomorrow so we had a bit of a panic to scour the cupboards for all the necessary ingredients and to make up some pizza dough.

He wanted to make a pepperoni and pineapple pizza (not my personal choice but that's teenage boys for you) anyway having some spare pineapple slices left over I also decided to quickly throw together a pineapple upside down cake which was a nice treat for the boys after their dinner.

All in all a very productive day (despite the flies)!
